Our centre promotes an inclusive environment where tamariki develop knowledge and understanding of New Zealand’s dual heritage, culture, language and identity as well as recognising the diverse cultures of our community. We communicate, engage and work in partnership with parents and whānau regarding all aspects of children’s learning, interests, goals and holistic development.
Busy Bees Brookyln Rooms!
Kākano Room (babies up to 2 years)
Kākano means seed in Māori and just as a seed needs to be nurtured and cared for to grow and reach it’s full potential, so do our babies! Our Kāhano Room is based on building loving and trusting bonds between pēpi. Kaiako work closely with whānau to understand children’s cues and develop a routine that supports tamariki natural rhythms. Kaiako utilise sensory play, outdoor exploration, music and movement to create a fun, interactive atmosphere whilst maintaining a focus on the love, care and affection that pēpi need to thrive. Our approach is guided by the uniqueness of each child. We recognise that every child is different, and we strive to meet their individual needs by creating a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment.
Pihinga Room (babies up to 3 years - with a specific area for our babies up to 2 years)
Pihinga means seedling in Māori and just as seedlings are busy growing and developing, so are our toddlers and young children. We know big changes happen during this time like increased independence and more curious questions. The Pihinga Room environment is prepared to entice children’s curiosity and exploration where testing, trying and challenge is valued. We support childhood learning with a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and supportive of all children during this age of discovery and wonder.
Kōhuri Room (3 -5 years)
Kōhuri means sapling in Māori, and just like saplings, our older children are growing strong and independent – gaining confidence and competence as they grow. Our preschool programme provides opportunities throughout the day for children to be involved in contributing to the curriculum, helping to make decisions about what is set up, and sharing their ideas to slowly prepare our little ones for their next learning adventure. The room is full of challenges for our children to grow and spread their wings. Tamariki are encouraged to care for others, the environment and their own property and are supported to understand their growing sense of responsibility for themselves and the world around them. A daily kapa haka group introduces children to waiata while supporting their motor skills development.
We are proud to be a lunchbox centre. This promotes independence as well as encourages self-help skills in preparation for school. We encourage families to make healthy food choices and ensure their child’s pouaka kai (lunch box) meets centre guidelines as well as Ministry of Health criteria for Early Learning Services.
Our dedicated centre team is currently striving towards the Tohu Manawa Ora | Healthy Heart Award from the Heart Foundation for the amazing things we do here to promote healthy food and physical activity.
Philosophy
Here at Busy Bees Brooklyn, our children are the heart of our centre and community. Aroha and whanaungatanga drive us and forms the foundation of our philosophy. We believe that every child deserves to know they are valued and respected and stive to ensure all tamariki feel safe and nurtured in a fun learning community. Kaiako foster, enrich, and support the relationships of the people, places and things that make each child unique. We empower our tamariki to direct their own learning, to share their culture and identity and to develop a sense of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of the environment. By fostering independence this leads to a sense of achievement and well-being (whakamana).
