Cultural Identity
Supporting our children to be confident in their identity, language and culture as citizens of Aotearoa, to be culturally strong in who they are (Te Ara Poutama pg.12).
Independence (Tino Rangatiratanga)
Children have agency to create and act on their own ideas, develop knowledge and skills in areas that interest them and, increasingly, to make decisions and judgements on matters that relate to them (Te Whāriki pg.18).
Respect
Respect is an important value to us as a teaching team. We see this as a learning priority to support children to foster respect for people, places and things within their world around them.
Our Centre
At Busy Bees Carterton, we believe that as an early learning centre, we have an important part to play in our local community and a very special opportunity to positively impact the lives of our young tamariki in their early stages of development. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful small town community, where we can get to know our individual families so well, with kaiako and families interact as a wider whānau, sharing and laughing together forms strong trusting relationships, support happy and settled children who take on transitions with ease. We strive to create a sense of belonging, welcoming new families in as part of our centre whānau.
Our Team
Our kaiako (teachers) are wonderful, amazing people who are motivated and work together to provide the best possible care and education for children, which can be felt throughout the centre. Having such a happy and positive teaching team, with a sense of fun in everything they do, encourages a happy environment and children, with a strong sense of belonging.
Our team are professional, experienced and passionate within the Early Learning field, continuously upskilling their own professional knowledge of teaching and nurturing young children as well as their philosophy of education and knowledge of child development.
Food & Nutrition
Our dedicated cook and centre team is currently striving towards the Tohu Manawa Ora | Healthy Heart Award from the Heart Foundation.
From wholesome ingredients to balanced portions, every meal is thoughtfully crafted to support healthy development and foster good eating habits from an early age. We believe that through nourishing food, children are fueled to thrive physically and mentally, whilst enjoying the benefits of coming together and connecting as a group at mealtimes.
Curriculum
We are committed to follow the aspirations of the New Zealand National ECE Curiculum, Te Whāriki. Te Whāriki envisages kaiako in early learning settings working in partnership with parents, whānau and community to realise this vision. The expectation is that, in their early years, children will experience a curriculum that empowers them as lifelong learners, right from their early exploration of the world around them, through to preparation for school.
