Cultural Identity
Supporting our children to be confident in their identity, language and culture as citizens of Aotearoa, to be culturally strong in who they are (Te Ara Poutama pg.12).
Independence (Tino Rangatiratanga)
Children have agency to create and act on their own ideas, develop knowledge and skills in areas that interest them and, increasingly, to make decisions and judgements on matters that relate to them (Te Whāriki pg.18).
Respect
Respect is an important value to us as a teaching team. We see this as a learning priority to support children to foster respect for people, places and things within their world around them.
Our Centre
At Busy Bees Carterton, we believe that as an early learning centre, we have an important part to play in our local community and a very special opportunity to positively impact the lives of our young tamariki in their early stages of development. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful small town community, where we can get to know our individual families so well, with kaiako and families interact as a wider whānau, sharing and laughing together forms strong trusting relationships, support happy and settled children who take on transitions with ease. We strive to create a sense of belonging, welcoming new families in as part of our centre whānau.
Our Rooms
At Busy Bees Carterton we have 2 rooms, our Kiwi room (under 2’s) and the Tui Room (over 2’s)
Kiwi Room
The Kaiako in our Kiwi room work to build loving and trusting bonds between pēpi and their whānau. Kaiako work closely with whānau to understand children’s cues and develop a routine that supports tamariki natural rhythms to allow the tamariki to feel more settled and content. Our Kaiako utilise our environment and experiences to create a fun, interactive atmosphere whilst maintaining a focus on the aroha, care and affection that pēpi need to thrive.
Tui Room
In our Tui Space the Kaiako work with the tamariki to create an environment that support the children through tuakana–teina relationships that allow the younger children to learn the routine and develop independence in this space. The Tui room Kaiako provide tamariki with learning experiences that provide a stepping stone to foster being school ready. Exposing children to an varitey of learning opportunities involving nature, literacy, numeracy, science, emotional development, confidence-building, social engagement and more. We have built strong relationships with Carterton, South End, St Mary's, Dalefield and Gladstone schools though our local Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning). .

We are extremely proud and excited to announce that we have received a Rito Tohu Manawa Ora | Healthy Heart Award from the Heart Foundation for the amazing things we do here at Busy Bees Carterton to promote healthy food and physical activity. We are helping our tamariki to have healthy habits and healthy hearts for life.
From wholesome ingredients to balanced portions, every meal is thoughtfully crafted to support healthy development and foster good eating habits from an early age. We believe that through nourishing food, children are fueled to thrive physically and mentally, whilst enjoying the benefits of coming together and connecting as a group at mealtimes.

Curriculum
Our daily programme supports children's learning through thoughtful provocations to stimulate children’s imagination, ideas and interests.
Our Bee Curious curriculum framework, grounded in Te Whāriki, New Zealand National ECE Curiculum, supports tamariki through rich, interconnected learning experiences. It focuses on Expressive Arts & Design, Physical Development, Communication & Languages, Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Mathematics, Literacy, and Understanding the World, creating a strong foundation for curiosity, confidence, and lifelong learning.
We are committed to follow the aspirations of the New Zealand National ECE Curiculum, Te Whāriki. Te Whāriki envisages kaiako in early learning settings working in partnership with parents, whānau and community to realise this vision. The expectation is that, in their early years, children will experience a curriculum that empowers them as lifelong learners, right from their early exploration of the world around them, through to preparation for school.
Our Philosophy
Providing the foundation for Tamariki to bloom
The bright flower of the Daffodil represents creativity, energy and resilience. we believe that just like the flowers we support Tamariki to their full potential through encouragement and Support
The leaf and steam of the daffodil represents the growth beginning to take place. just like the leaf and steam we support Tamariki to develop their holistic wellbeing and learning by being available to support, encourage and nurture every child's growth with clear expectations and routines
The bulb of the daffodil needs care to grow and sprout each year. Just like the bulb of the daffodil, we believe it is important to teach children to care for things and this supports our Tamariki to develop an awareness of the world around us.
Contribution and cultural collaboration with our families and community helps us to provide the best care for our Tamariki. Just like the roots of the daffodil provide its foundation, our community forms the foundation of our teaching and learning.
