As an Early Learning Centre we believe we play an important role in our community and have a very special opportunity to positively impact young children’s lives in the early stages of their development.  We have a strong focus on manakitanga and whakawhanaungatanga, building reciprocal relationships with whānau, tamariki and the wider community, to provide a safe and welcoming environment, where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Our centre caters for tamariki aged 0-6yrs and we are nestled in quiet Lisa Crescent, just round the corner from Western Heights Primary School. We are easy to find and within a short travelling distance to the local Mangakakahi town, making us a natural choice for busy parents and local families in the community.

Our team is made up of passionate and experienced teachers who are warm, welcoming and naturally caring people.  We see all children as individuals, valuing each unique stage of life, show them respect for who they are and providing equal opportunities to ensure the best possible start in life.

Our centre offers wonderful, safe and fun outdoor spaces where children are provided with a range of diverse resources, including natural gardens and environment visuals, whilst enjoying the fresh air.

Intentional activities and provocations are set up daily throughout the centre, providing calming and inviting spaces, where you'll often hear children, whānau and kaiako engaging in meaningful conversations.

Our inhouse cook provides freshly made meals for children each day using our Nourish menus and recipes, based on the New Zealand Heart Foundation Tohu Manawa Ora | Healthy Heart Award for Early Learning Centres. We believe that through nourishing food, children are fueled to thrive physically and mentally, whilst enjoying the benefits of coming together and connecting as a group at mealtimes.

Teachers also do regular baking with the children, which provides them opportunities to engage and learn a range of food preparations skills and fine motor movements such as pouring, sifting, spooning. It is a great hands on sensory experience for children to develop independence through self-help skills and practicing simple mathematical concepts as they measure and count quantities.

We proudly operate our own Busy Bees centre van, allowing us to help support both new and existing families who require assistance with transport to and from the centre. We also utilise this awesome resource for excursions out and about in our local community!

Our children enjoy walks where they can get out and explore locally. We are fortunate the centre is a short walk from the local park and Western Heights Primary School. Other places our kaiako and children love to visit include MIGs Gymnastics and the Redwoods. We often have our local community join us in Centre for visits and enhance our children’s knowledge about people, places, things and events.

Our curriculum reflects our philosophy for strong relationships. We absolutely love coming together with our tamariki, whānau and community to strengthen our connection with one another. At Busy Bees Mangakakahi, we love to celebrate different cultures and events, which provide boundless learning for tamariki and an appreciation of different cultures and traditions.

Our core programme at mat times focuses on shapes, colours, letters and numbers, and are integrated throughout each week.  We often see tuakana-teina relationships at play, with the older children encouraging and helping the younger ones, leading to many heart-warming learning moments.
