Children are the co-constructors of their own learning journey here at Silverstream Early Learning Centre. We take care to ensure that every child has their own learning journey which is tailored to their individual learner identity. Through Storypark and children's portfolios, parents and whānau are invited to be an integral part of their child's learning.
Silverstream Early Learning Centre has two age-appropriate rooms that flow through to their respective outdoor areas.
Ruru Room (up to 2 years)
Our Ruru Programme provides a nurturing and caring environment to ensure that our littlest ones feel safe and secure in their own space, as they begin to explore and discover the world around them. The Ruru team are specialised and expert infant kaiako and work solely with child cues, knowing your baby, and listening to what they need and when they need it. We have a dedicated outside area for our youngest tamariki where they can explore safely, and at their own pace.
Kiwi Room (2-5 years)
Our Kiwi Programme is designed to meet the growing needs of our busy toddlers and preschoolers. It offers opportunities throughout the day for our tamariki to contribute to the curriculum, make decisions and share their ideas. Kaiako work alongside our tamariki to create an environment which is challenging and provides curiosity. Tamariki are encouraged to care for others, the environment and their own property and are supported to understand their growing sense of responsibility for themselves and the world around them. While reading and writing materials are available to explore, the curriculum is emergent and discovery-based, with kaiako observing and conversing with tamariki to develop projects based on their interests.
Our very talented Centre Chef lovingly prepares morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea daily. Our Nourish menus are dietitian approved and have been thoughtfully designed following the New Zealand Food and Nutrition Guidelines and the Ministry of Health Healthy Eating for Babies, Toddlers and Children.
Our tuākana (older children) bring a lunch box on Wednesdays. The 4 year olds thoroughly enjoy this, and it promotes independence as well as encourages self-help skills in preparation for school.
Teachers regularly do baking with the children, which provides them opportunities to engage and learn a range of food preparations skills and fine motor movements such as pouring, sifting, spooning. It is a great hands-on sensory experience for children to develop independence through self-help skills, practice simple maths as they measure and count quantities.
Our centre has vegetable gardens and fruit trees. These gardens help tamariki learn through hands-on activities, encourage them to work together to plant and harvest, and teach them where food comes from. They also help children develop a love for nature and care for the environment.
Curriculum
Our local curriculum incorporates learning dispositions, the principles and goals of Aotearoa’s Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki, and competencies derived from Tātaiako. Our innovative learning environments are abundantly resourced with stimulating educational resources which complement the delivery of our local curriculum and educational programme. Our teachers are passionate about encouraging children's creativity, supporting their emerging social interactions, and celebrating their individual successes.
Our Educators
It is important that the teaching team here at Silverstream Early Learning Centre share the same love and understanding for our community of learners. Each teacher comes with their own set of skills and beliefs which add up to an excellent experience for ngā tamariki. A rich cultural index and passionate teachers makes for a well-balanced, nurturing environment for your little one.
