If you love stepping into different rooms, supporting great teams, and bringing calm, capable energy wherever you go, we would love to welcome you into our reliever pool at Busy Bees Douglas Street. We are looking for both Registered and Unregistered relievers who want to make a meaningful difference while enjoying a role that truly fits around their lifestyle.
About us:
Busy Bees Douglas Street is a well-established and active part of the Whakatāne community, known for providing high-quality care where relationships shape everything. Our centre features six well-resourced classrooms and spacious outdoor environments with real grass and established trees, offering tamariki plenty of room to explore nature and build confidence. We work closely with our sister centre, McGarvey Road, which is just around the corner. This partnership creates a supportive, wider network where our core values of whānau, respect, adventure, and passion guide everything we do.
About you:
You are someone who brings a warm, steady presence and a genuine love for working with children across all ages. Whether you are a registered teacher or someone early in your ECE journey, you are adaptable, read the room quickly, and enjoy the variety of moving between different spaces. You value inclusive practice and feel comfortable supporting child-led learning while maintaining clear communication with the rest of the team. Most importantly, you stay anchored under pressure and enjoy contributing to environments where children feel safe, seen, and celebrated.
The mahi:
You will move between rooms as needed, supporting kaiako to keep the day smooth and child centred. Your work will include helping guide routines, engaging in play-based learning, noticing children’s cues, offering calm relational support and contributing to environments where tamariki feel safe, curious and confident. You will bring consistency, warmth and good communication as you slot into each space, working alongside the team to uphold responsive, inclusive practice across the centre.
Why you’ll love it here:
You will love the genuine flexibility this role offers, allowing you to choose the days and hours that work best for your life, whether you are studying or balancing family commitments. The work itself is incredibly rewarding, giving you the chance to gain experience across different age groups in a nature-rich, supportive environment. You will be part of a professional team that genuinely values the fresh energy and support relievers bring, ensuring you feel like a respected part of the whānau from day one.
If you have a genuine interest in caring for and supporting our little ones and this sounds like the right fit, please get in touch!
Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
