We are looking for a passionate Centre Cook to join our vibrant and culturally diverse team at Busy Bees Ormiston Road in Flat Bush. This is a chance to bring your love of food to a role where your culinary skills directly support the growth, learning and wellbeing of our tamariki. If you enjoy turning fresh ingredients into nourishing kai and want a role that celebrates cultural cooking, this is the perfect opportunity for you..

About us:
At Busy Bees Ormiston Road, our team is a beautiful mix of cultures where everyone belongs. Joining the Busy Bees Aotearoa whānau means you have the backing of a national network while working in a team that celebrates every background. In our Honey Pots nursery, we focus on building deep bonds with our pēpi, while our Pohutukawa room team prepares our older tamariki for kura. We love bringing our own stories to life through cultural cooking and our playground to plate gardens. With our centre van keeping us connected to the local Flat Bush area, we are a true community. Join a supportive team where your unique heritage and heart are celebrated every day.

The mahi:
Working Monday to Friday, you will take charge of preparing daily kai for our tamariki while maintaining high standards of food safety and kitchen hygiene. Your day will involve following nutritional guidelines, managing dietary requirements and supporting the centre with food related routines. You will also have the exciting opportunity to incorporate our cultural cooking and playground to plate garden initiatives into your daily prep. Beyond the cooking, you will be a familiar, friendly face for the children and a valued contributor to our overall centre culture.

About you:

  • Confident cooking for groups, purchasing weekly groceries and adhering to an allocated budget

  • Organised, efficient and able to maintain a clean, well run kitchen while documenting daily food records and following cleaning schedules

  • Committed to maintaining high levels of hygiene and safe food practices

  • Warm, friendly and a great communicator with a consistent, positive and flexible attitude

  • Proactive in maintaining safety standards and reporting hazards to ensure a safe environment for our tamariki

  • Experience cooking in an ECE centre or similar environment is an advantage

  • A full, clean New Zealand driver licence

Why you will love it here:
You will be part of a genuinely friendly, supportive team where your work is noticed and appreciated. You will receive discounted childcare, annual flu vaccination and first aid training, as well as guidance and ongoing support in your role. You will know the food you create each day is making a real difference for tamariki.

If you love creating delicious, nourishing kai and want to be part of a team who values your skill and heart, we would love to hear from you. Please apply with your CV and cover letter.

Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid work visa.

Why Work for Busy Bees?
If you’re passionate about early learning, Busy Bees is the place to be. Although we are part of a global organisation, our company was founded by three families looking for better, more enriching childcare. Three decades later, we still keep the same values at heart.

We know that we couldn’t do what we do without the important people in our teams. We invest in our people and work with them to build career pathways that inspire.
